The original building of the hall commenced in 1909 in the wonderful Arts and Crafts style of
the era and was funded by public subscription and gifted land.
The construction is of the high standard expected of the day, of generous proportions with
large windows and high ceilings affording plenty of light.
Subsequently, thanks to a lottery grant, the hall has been extended and improved.
The running and management of the hall is, and always has been, undertaken by volunteers
overseen by our Trustees.
Located in the centre of the village, Charmouth’s Community Hall provides a space for a variety of local groups, sports clubs, meetings and functions. Available for hire, the building boasts a large hall, club room, kitchens, an outside area and parking.
We are indebted to many local trades’ people in our lovely village who give us their time and
support in the hall’s maintenance at favourable rates.
The main hall has many uses. It has a polished wood sprung floor and a small stage which
measures 8m (L) by 2m (D).
Double glazed windows, heating and air conditioning have recently been installed which add
to the comfort.
The premises are equipped to cater for functions of up to 80 seated guests or up to hundred
and 120 standing.
The floor is marked out for a badminton court and badminton posts and net are available.
An indoor bowls short mat is available, with woods provided by the players.
Pickleball equipment is also available for use.
A licensed bar facility with security hatch can be made available upon request.
Unfortunately bouncy castles are not suitable for booking into the hall because of the sprung floor.
The club room is cosy and centrally heated giving a warm ambience to the room during the
winter months. Chairs and tables are available and there is a serving hatch between the
clubroom and the kitchen. This room is ideal for small gatherings and groups.
The main kitchen includes a six burner commercial cooker, a warming oven, microwave and
Crockery and cutlery pots and pans and dishes are also available.
The small kitchen has kettles and is available to make beverages and small snacks.
Again, crockery and cutlery are available.
The main hall and club room hire includes use of the small kitchen for making tea coffee and
There is a £1 pound electric slot meter located in the disabled toilet just inside the building at
the south side entrance near the kitchen which feeds the electric sockets.
There is limited parking. A dedicated disabled parking space is available at the front of the
hall. The tennis club area is private and parking by hall users is prohibited so please do not
use that area.
There is a public car park situated approximately 40m on the right past the hall towards the
sea on the south side.
Concrete ramps are located at the front and both sides of the hall enabling access to all
downstairs areas of the premises. There is a disabled downstairs toilet.
St Andrews community hall, built in Charmouth in 1909, cranks the ambition up even further, with pebbledashed buttresses and a frontage clad with mock-Tudor timbers, giving the indoor lawn bowls sessions a whiff of Merrie Olde England.
